QuickBooks is not an ERP
An honest look at where SMB accounting tools stop and where real ERPs start.
Where QuickBooks stops
QuickBooks and similar tools are excellent at basic bookkeeping for very small businesses. But once you need multi-entity consolidation, real inventory costing, or workflows that span sales, purchasing, and manufacturing, you're working against the tool rather than with it.
What an ERP actually does
An ERP unifies operational and financial data in one system, so a sales order, an inventory movement, and a journal entry are the same transaction seen from different angles — not three separate systems syncing (or failing to sync) with each other.
QuickBooks isn't a lesser ERP. It's a different category of tool, built for a different stage of business.
